I'm never off the road, last week was Torquay for 3 days and just when I thought I was going home, I had to go to Colchester. Don't know what category to put this in so I'm opting for industrial.

Work in the NHS (man and boy).

We ( I mean THEY) have spent £100Ks on laptops for community nurses. We have more computers than nurses. My patch is Keyham and Stonehouse in Plymouth. carrying around a laptop is like saying 'come on rob me' in some places. My colleagues aren't really early implementers of IT. We dont have room to all sit down in the office at the same time nor do we have enough chairs. We have now got the annual freeze on recruitment in place because yet again we are overspent as per usual. Eh! It happens every year - surely it should be someones responsibility. Despite overspend we ( I mean THEY) regularly hire places like the Mt Batten centre for training and teambuilding. We have three boardrooms. I'm up for teambuilding yeah! but you cant teambuild or manage inadequate staffing. In a recent discussion with management I used the analogy trying to 'manage' the petrol in your car to drive from plymouth to exeter if you only had enoughto get 2/3rds of the way. I was not 'being supportive'. oh just fuck off.

I'm ranting sorry. Fed up of sack dodging and nearly helping. Today at least.

ps I use the Exeter thing as an example - I've never been so far - a tidy way, queer folk up there. I went to Newton Abbott once - didn't like it.

Sort of IT I s'pose, tech support for an large electronics mfr. I'm the evil bastard on the phone that says "Now you remember where the 'on' button is, bearing in mind I only trained you last F*CKING WEEK?" and "No you can't have a new board under warranty, you blew the last one up, don't you bloody lie to me".
I really got into diving cos the narcosis took me away from it it all. Then Helium came along and ruined it all <sob>
