    The Daily Mail?

I think I last read the Daily Mail on my breaks when the other guy in our two man public transport team bought it.
He must have been smart as he combined being both Courier and Cashier while managing signage, ticketing, customer safety, public relations, luggage and occasionally livestock but I still wasn't hugely impressed with his choice of reading material but who was I to complain? I only drove the bus.

So I assume it hasn't improved since the late 1960s.

    What's been written above.

There's its constant drip feed of mean-spirited stories about groups of people it doesn't like. Take immigrantion; there are never any personalised stories about why an asylum seeker or illegal immigrant came here. The stories are always negative.

Also, I'm constantly astonished that it has such a high female readership. It seems to delight in stories that trash women, especially when they try to juggle a career and children. Men never cop that kind of coverage.

It harks back to a non-existent golden age, so it misleads its readers into thinking that everything would be alright as long as the right kind of people are allowed to administer the right kind of physical punishment on those who are different.

It believes that children are so inherently innocent that they'll only have sex if taught about it.

    There's more but I can't be arsed.

In short, it's not particularly right wing, it's just a constant drip feed of reactionary nastiness.

You missed off: lying, ignorant, racist, chauvinistic, idiotic, and manipulative from the first option *.

Still, not as bad as the Daily Express.

    * I was going to put a link in for "hypocritical", then I realised that was already covered by every other link.

You should try Radio Five Live. It's like all the nutcases in the world in one handy-to-nuke location.

    Certainly more 'golden' than now?

Although, TBH, I'm not sure if they were 'golden times' just because I was young and life was fun?

I'm not really in a position to defend as I don't read that much in any newspaper; I only buy the Telegraph for the crossword. but as no one apart from me is volunteering for the role of DA.

Good response with the links (at which I looked). Of course the replies of individuals to stories do not count as definitive proof of guilt. Furthermore, how many other papers are not guilty of the same alleged faults. Particularly with misreporting stories (8yo suicide bomber); do not all papers grab stories from ????????? and publish them without proper substantiation?

Given the plethora of 24hr news channels on TV it actually amazes me that newspapers can exist at all these days? I suppose this lends weight to the argument that they know their audience and pander to their wishes .............

I shall endeavour to keep a balanced eye on the contents in future, although this means I might need a second cuppa at lunchtime.

So just like every other paper then? All the papers have their own agenda and slant their stories to suit.
