when i go snorkelling with the kids its on the left of my head, cos thats how the purge valve works best.

when I am having beer poured down it in the club I don't care what side its on

I don't wear one when Diving , only when snorkelling.

On the left when I'm snorkelling, stuffed into a pocket when I'm diving - useful for a surface swim in heavy seas but gets in the road if attached to the mask when diving.

Seems like a waste of beer... straight through the purge valve and onto the floor

For diving purposes I reckon a snork is best 'stowed' somewhere and not permanently fixed to the mask - unless that's how you like it of course.

You can make some hilarious 'farting' noises with a purge valve snorkel. Simply hold the snorkel with its open end (long end) down, then slowly lower the tube into the water keeping it at such an angle that the tube and mouthpiece take on an 'n' shape just as the mouthpiece hits the water. As it all submerges the exhausting air gives off a brilliant "gggrrrraaaaaaphhhhtp!!!" - highly embarassing for someone you point at and say, "eeugh..."

What are those new bendable ones called? I'd happily put one of them in a pocket. At the moment just don't wear one, but do hate breathing from my reg at the surface.

You should see the size of the one Marion has got at JC Diving. Don't think you could stow that anywhere!
