ADV flow stop

Hello,

Why you use a flowstop to the ADV? Remember that I don't even have the unit yet, before someone reminds me that Because the ADV can free flow? If you just close the diluent valve, does it have same effect ? If yes why do one thing instead of the other (hope it makes sens)

Regrads

Pierre

no its so that you can shut it off so it dosn't active

I turn mine off on the way up so that the ADV don't cut in and drop the O2 mix

Main reason I use it is if I am running trimix from an off board tank with air in my on board for inflation. In this case you dont want the ADV feeding air into your mix and messing it up.

Other reason is it makes emptying the lungs at 6m easier when you want to do an O2 flush.

This stuff you will most likely come across more when you do the trimix ccr course.

You are also right about the freeflow reason also

I had mine start to leak half way through a 10 day trip recently and had to shut it off completely for half the trip.

Why would it activate on the way up?

Not being funny, just wondering if I have missed something. On the way up your loop is expanding so ADV shouldn't activate.

Go on, point out what I am missing.

.

If you over vent thru your nose as you ascend ADV could fire

But you shouldnt really be over venting - practice makes perfect.

breathe out on ascent go slightly too far
then the lungs don't have enough volume (slightly under minimum volume)

or when doing O2 flushes breathe out as mauch as possible and then breathe in and hit O2 button

sure just screws in

Apex flow stop fits but is shorter and so harder to use especialy with gloves IMO than the APD one thats much longer and has a longer stroke.

That would explain it, I use the lung dump on ascent as it seems to waste less o2 and I am tight.
