Actually the reaction is very aggressive. If you take a scrubber canister out after a dive and run your hand up it you can feel the hot ring that is the reaction front. I've done two and a big bit hours and this was just over half way up but it went in the bin anyhow. I view it like bringing a third back on OC. I tend to assume that kitty litter at eight pounds a fill is four pounds an hour as I won't start a day with well used lime so a lot of fills with an hour to run get trashed, I go out and do two one hour dives and what do you know? Another hour goes in the bin. I suspect we could fudge a half fill with a spare spider, another shim and a bundle of crunched up chicken wire but, as others have said, I've got kegs of the stuff here and the boat hire make consumables costs trivial. nigelH |

| I guess to do the job properly you would need a two scrubber unit like the French(?) one posted the other day. Presumably, if you can monitor it correctly, you could just keep changing the one small scrubber leaving the second in reserve. It would be a more economic use of slime, but more faff. What about two thin radial scrubbers, stacked? That would give the best of both worlds... I had wondered about putting an additional tiny scrubber between the main and the T-piece and just leaving it there as a sort of safety net for crap slime. I think again it would be more hassle than it's worth. I think the point is understood however that mixing up old and new together is just barking. |

You've either paid a shedload for the RB or put a lot of time/effort into building your own, so to try to save a few quid is madness. Also Nigel's right, I quite like all of the attendant work in preparing and checking the thing, ok it's all new to me at the moment, but I think it'll stay like that. The other thing is that you seem to save no effort re-using the s'lime, so ateotd, it'a all down to money. r Paul |
