LCD vs LED

I'm about to build a PPO2 monitor and I'm considering using LED display as opposed to LCD, I know that the power consumption for LED is about double that of LCD(backlit ones) but it's not really an issue, I just figured they would be easier to see at a glance since they don't sufffer any viewing angle problems (or maybe I just like being different ).

Anyone used LED before, pros & cons etc ?

what ho karl, i've built both and have just finished building a twin display for a guy i met which was an LED type the biggest problem was finding the best battery type for the displays,i looked at the specks of the batterys which seemed to have fcuk all to do with how they perfomed i now have a battery that last 84hrs continus at 21'c on my displays and is tinny
i've just finished building my own display which are differant from above but are LED using the same chipset
the first set i built was LCD with back light which are great but you realy need to dim the back light down as for one, it eats batterys and two it tends to glear over the diggets. if i did it again i would add a veriable risister for this-still can i guesse!!

you also may want to think of how you want to control your displays
on an LED you only need to control ON/OFF via a n/c reed switch
with a back lit LCD you have to control on/off and back light, bouble the trouble!
so far im not seeing any big avantage of lcd over LED but im yet to dive the new set as it still being anodized.......next week all being well then i can give you a better veiw.
best regards john routley

I swopped out from LCD to LED displays on one of my homebuilds. The LED displays were so briught that you could cave dive but them. In the end I went for LCD ppO2 monitors made by someone else other than me and the LED displays have been turned into Nitrox analysers. Woz has one.
