BSAC Inspiration courses

Just wondering about the cost implications for these for BSAC members.

Am I right (optimistic!) that these will be pretty cheap or even free apart from course materials and diving costs, like most of the SDCs are for club members?

If so, where does that leave the agencies charging £500+ for these?

David

I daresay that if the course is being run on a 'cover costs & admin' basis like most SDCs then it may well be cheap. If run by a commercial school, then expect to pay commercial rates, just like any school based SDC.

Have you asked BSAC HQ?

Adrian

Yes you are correct.

Where does it leave the established agencies, pretty much right where they are now I would guess.

After all PADI seem to survive despite BSAC's competition.

The problem is the BSAC courses are not available, the number of instructors will be small and many of the instructors will offer the courses through commercial operations anyway.

When the idea was first touted, the comment that I heard was, "Since most of the instructors would be existing YBOD instructors, why would they charge less to teach with the BS-AC, when they could charge the going rate of £500"

However I paid about 150 quid for my IANTD Basic/Adv Nitrox course when it was a devil gas, and the BS-AC are doing then for about 28 quid +expenses.

Unhappy

At risk of being flamed by Keith et al.

I enquired after doing my MOD1 course by the BSAC route. I was advised to go away and do a course with a commercial school.
BSAC if I could find one or other.
that advice was from somebody on the BSAC rebreather training list, and not near the bottom of it.

QED mod 1 is with IANTD

I have done the BS-AC CCR course.
Through a school. Therefore a commercial rate.
An excellent course, designed very much with BS-AC branch diving in mind!
As with all courses the Instructor is the strong (or weak) point.
I had a great time, really enjoyed it. The instructor is now a good friend.
I had my own unit for the course, Kitty Litter and gases supplied.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that most of the people qualified to teach BSAC Mod 1 are professional instructors anyway. Costs are therefore likely to be very similar.

There may be a few people who will teach it cheaply for the love of it, but these guys will be retired or independently wealthy!

I was in contact with two BS-AC Instructors.
Both wanted similiar amounts - a commercial rate.
I chose the my instructor because I had done a Dolphin course with him, I liked the man and his teaching methods.
