Something that's just crossed my mind...

This is obviously a 'DIR rebreather'... Sounds like all the team skills are re-enforced with the new piece of kit in mind to deal with. I'm assuming that as these are more specific skills that you'll only be able to dive it with more GUE RB divers rather than mixing with an OC team.

How many other GUE RB divers are there in the UK at the mo?

One other RB80 diver - but luckily I know him

The RB80 is designed to be easily able to mix and match with GUE open circuit teams. Al and I will dive together building experience at first but there is no reason why if gas plans allow we cannot dive with GUE OC divers as I did when I did the Ressl dive in June last year when I dived OC with two RB divers.

Ah good, that's handy

Are there any things that the team will have to do differently if it's a mix of RB/OC? I guess an addition level of buddy check to brief on other possible faults?

congratulations, sounds like a well-earned pass

do you expect to be doing any open-water diving with the RB80 or will it be all caves?

It's well catered for in that the training builds on the same platform so most of the kit and responses don't alter. However it would help to have someone with some understanding of how the RB works.

In the long term of course we wouldn't plan to dive RB/OC teams - the only reason to have it is if you can no longer accomplish the dive on OC. Overall our plan is for both deeper ocean dives and longer cave diving. But I reckon it will take us a little time before that happens.

Cheers
Al

I managed one dive last year that consisted of three Ybods and a DIR OC making up the numbers(maths was never a strong point of mine, so it was a three ish).

Well done Clare, sounds like an entertaining course!

I've got a spare KISS valve and triple display if you want them, I'm told it's pretty easy to convert the RB80 into a rebreather

Cheers,

Stuart

Wow! Very impressed - congrats to both you and Al for surviving what sounded like the perfect blend of 'course from hell' and 'experience of a lifetime'. A worthy green incoming to you both
