Webreather

Hi Folks,

a few threads over the last few weeks have got me thinking. After four years of varying succes building RBs, I got to wondering if it was possible to obtain everything you needed in about an hour on t'internet:

From Tubbie in Oz:
Scrubber £230
Case £273
Counterlungs £36

From W+S Watersafety in Germany:
Complete Draeger DSV & Hoses £106
2x Draeger P-Ports £40

From Richard in South Africa:
Double O2 Meter £280

From Jetsam/Gordon Smith:
KISS Valve £117
Reg Plug £5

From Oxycheq:
2x R22D Sensors £80

Shopping around UK dive shops:
2x 3L Cylinders £170
2x Apeks 1st Stages £120
Dump Valve £15

Accessories:
A dil addition valve from Swagelok/Clippard bits is maybe £30 (need a filter for the KISS valve too); say £10 for cables, connectors and glands; and maybe £50 for incidental bits.

I'd reckon a drill, a wrench and a screwdriver would be the only tools you'd need.

About £1600 all in for a complete working KISS RB.

Cheers,

Stuart

Tools ? Gaffa tape and cable ties - you can make anything from them

On a more serious note, it's an interesting concept, but not one I'd ever try !

Probably marginally better than Loch Ness, Dorothea, Joint and the Clyde where the others got dived. At least that's one way to avoid grief from the bobble-hat-and-clipboarded twat that tried to lecture me a couple of weeks ago.

Having had a good look through that list of parts, if you're conversant with how a RB works it should be relatively easy to do.
However I'd want an ADV, so any sugestions on what to get/where to source it from?
The AP one is out as it's the counterlung T as well, can you get a "Bob-o-matic" that fits in a P port? or in the exhale hose? or is there a better alternative?
Has anyone tried kit from these people http://www.master.pl/~nemotech/rebreatherparts.htm ? (there is a quite nice looking ADV but it's priced at $230!!)

What about using a second stage as the ADV? Ebay has lots...

I had thought about re-engineering a second stage for the job (adapter to fit P-port, replace exhaust valve with over pressure valve [May require some reengineering] and adjust cracking pressure so it's high enough. I also have a spare Scubapro R190, and "Diggers Dive Emporium" is sellng S/H R190's at a very reasonable rate), but I was wondering if someone had come accross something that was neater and less labour intensive.
