Diluent Addition Options

Hi Folks,

due to a knackered zip (and the delivery of a lot of boxes from a kitchen shop and the words "build it before I get back or else") I am not diving this w/e so will be doing a bit more work on my box of doom.

Who likes what when it comes to diluent? The standard Inspiration has a manual add and no ADV, the KISS has an ADV and no manual add and the Mk15.5 has both.

Up until now I've been happy with manual addition but with the imminent arrival of my new beastie maybe it is time to add something fancier. As one of my RBs is going to be a back-up unit, an ADV will be essential on it. My own thought is still to have a manual add somewhere to make flushing easier.

Just wondering what people prefer and why.

Cheers,

Stuart

I got the ADV with the box, did the course on a rented unit (not allowed to use the ADV). Now I'm finding that I like to use the ADV until I get to bottom then I switch it off and go manual if any more dil is needed. It's working for me for now so I'll stick to this method.

I bought the Bob-o-matic (no AP product in those days) and I run it a lot looser than the AP device so I do not feel it feed although I hear it. I have an FFD slide valve on it and I have to close this if I'm doing a minimum-loop/repelnish-the-oxygen drill (hand sets out).
I say there was no AP product. I knew there was, it just wasn't released yet. So I asked at the London Show after I got my unit when would it be out. "Oh no. You don't need one of them. Not a good idea. etc. etc." That annoyed me and taught me to be wary of AP statements.

Diluent? Poofs.

Personally, I know nothing about it. That's lesson two. And I've not been to lesson one yet.

The YBOD ADV comes plumbed into the on-board dil bar.
But If Im running trimix dil off my off-board instead and just using the on-board for air inflation then I shut off the ADV with a flowstop so as not to mess up the mix.

All my off-board bailout tanks have whips to plug into the dil/o2 add buttons and/or OC/CC valve.

With the ADV 'on' I do find I use more dil.

Bob's website shows that he isn't building/selling anything now and it hasn't been updated for some time. http://www.rebreather.org.uk/
This is rather a pity as he did good kit but I suspect he was always skirting round the CE marking laws. Interestingly the ADV page is still there at http://www.rebreather.org.uk/adv.htm
