If I remember rightly the new connectors are shaped a bit like an Apeks valve nipple. Like a jack plug but smaller and with a firmer connection.

yeah jack plugs now they have seen the light!!

I have not seen them causing problems with the circuit boards in the cells OR the temperature compensation when used correctly - I have seen people trying to remove cells without first disconnecting the molex connectors, this does have the potential to fuck the cells over time and can wreck the pins in the molex connectors plus cause breaks in the wiring. I saw a numptyoid fuckwit on a boat last year cross threading the cells back into the holder after being told to refit the cells before the molex connectors too!! That was before the beer crate was opened!

The molex connectors are a particular pain in the ass for hiding moisture too which then travels up the wires and if not stripped back and trimmed, the moisture can get right up to the junction box (which is potted) - this is a very difficult repair to effect on an expedition. I only know of one person who managed it successfully.

Of course it is backwardly compatible - the functionality of the Evolution electronics can be added to a new or old inspiration by purchasing the Vision electronics. From a configuration management perspective the pre-vision software encapsulates many different versions on hard coded boards. Effectively this renders the old software "one time" and it cannot be upgraded without replacing the boards and handset housing hardware. In essence, the old electronics offer an erroneous subset of Boolean commands with differing variable outputs and different versions of software will calibrate sensors of varying outputs with different results. The release of Vision is probably intended to be a driver for unification of software across the board eventually or the equivalent of a platform transformation across the user base.

The other minor tweaks made such as different clips on the case and different connections/lid architecture does not actually offer the user any increased functionality in diving. People are selling old units and going for Evolution as a package due to the smaller size, however they will not have the same capability with the smaller bottles and scrubber in cold water conditions at depth.

My sensor wires are directly soldered. Saves a lot of pissing around and far more reliable, no moisture issues can fully seal.

    I didn't have any problems!

One interesting point though; although the new electronics will allow standardised boards to be used, reducing the problems with units and differing embedded logic (and keeping the cost down) it does introduce a way of killing a lot of divers with one bad firmware release!

For the price that you pay for a unit, it's comparible to a McLaren F1 sports car - those come with a remote modem diagnostics system, so that Mclaren can "Dial-In" to your car, diagnose, fix and restart your engine anywhere in the world.

Just imagine the same on your new Shiney YBOD - you're 100m down and you glance at the handset to see:

Yeah, imagine seeing the blue screen of death on your handsets LOL

    Geekmode firmly ON

Look, no one will open a sex forum so I reverted to type, i.e. Geek

I only have three topics in my repertoire - rebreathers, sex and beer.

    Regards

Oh, of course, now I see it. Silly of me to miss that
All divers are created equal(ised) - it's just that some of us handle the pressure better.
