Lightbulb Right...

I'm going to do some experiments at the weekend (if I get time cos Sat = teaching on an OWIC and Sun = examining on a PIE)

1. Get out the O2 analyser and test the O2 content of exhaled air

2. Set up the mCCR and sit and breathe it for 5mins. I'll have the constant flow set to 1L/min so I'll see what happens to the ppO2

3. I could breathe OC for 5mins (using an air integrated computer to get pressure drop) but I know my SAC for OC anyway

With regards to skip-breathing on OC, I don't think I do but I do:
4. slow-breathe
5. consciously take longer to breathe out than in

As I said this is weird because I believe I'm more relaxed on CCR than OC!

I need to get this clear in my head.

I understand that the harder I work the more CO2 I produce.

I assume I therefore meatbolise O2 at a higher rate. i.e faster. So if I was on a eCCR the consuption of O2 would increase?

John

Yes. The harder you work, the more O2 you use to burn food, producing more CO2, which means the scrubber lasts shorter.

On a MCCR I can feel the countwelungs getting tighter as the gas volume decreases.
