Help!

the mask in the picture is made by drager, and is suitable for use with rebreathers ( acording to their blurb!) that much i know, cos of their web site. tried contacting drager uk re prices etc and they didnt know what i was on about (even though its on their website) and suggested speaking to Aqualung - who also didnt have a clue.
anyone on here speak/type german? as i dont and i figured the only way to get any sense was to go directly to germany - unless someone knows what they cost already

Hi Duncan, I used an Interspiro AGA Divator MK11 for a couple of years. Fantastic, everyone who has had a dive with it has said they loved it, with a few of the try divers buying their own. There are some pretty neat conversions available for the Ybod and other re breathers. If you are thinking about going FFM I suggest you try the AGA before commiting yourself to another. I spotted one on E bay for 125 quid a few days ago, so have a look and see what you think.

Regards,

Dave.

Darth Vader lives!

I used an AGA on OC for a while. They're OK as a tool for set purposes (working in f*cking cold or dirty environments), but I think their use needs to be considered against the situation.

With a breather, it'd be interesting to see how people do a check of their deep water OC bailout (ie, isolate loop, remove whole mask, take breaths on OC, replace mask, clear mask, restore loop).

Personally, I wouldnt do it, I dont like losing my breathy bit at the same time as my seeing bit.

/Zak (not diving today after enjoying a dubious curry last night)

i know what you mean about the breathy/seeing bit Zak, but i'd hope to incorporate my Kiss dsv into/onto the full face mask so i could o/c bailout without binning the seeing bit of my kit - unless the mask itself had filled with liquid from a flooded loop (arrh) then its time for spare mask (and pants!) but thats hopefully pretty unlikley to happen. and im very shortly going to be running the AP gas connect system so i can plumb in any of the gas im carrying into the loop or the oc bailout reg so even gas switching on an oc bailout wont need to swap reg/mask over.
is it just the bailout part that puts you off?

Come on no one is going to do all that "close loop, remove mask, find bail out". That's what I was saying about the conversions for the Ybod, there's a KISS type mouth piece that fits the AGA with a single switch on the front to go from CC to OC. Much the same as I would think AP will be doing with their FFM. Unfortunately they seem to have the early Micro soft style of marketing going on right now. Push/sell products that are no where near ready. Evolution?

Oc Dsv/ffm

I guess that works, provided your primary gas circuit is working. But how do you test your *offboard* bailout.... or... are you only using gas QC's?

I guess there are solutions, but Im the conservative/pessimistic type who believes in carrying a complete separate offboard system. I had to use it once (my own stupid fault) and theres almost mental re-assurance to going back to simple OC, you know this stuff works (part of the reason for deep water testing).
