In case anyone is wondering I am thinking of buying as a starter twinset.

Later I may add a manifold.

I take it you are looking to buy this kit??

Costs new are estimated:

APEKS TX40 Regulator with APEKS TX40 Second stage and Octopus. Complete with UWATEC Twin console with Pressure Gauge and Dive Timer - £300

APEKS DS4 Regulator with UWATEC Pressure Gauge - £100

Oceanic Rucksac Style Dive Bag - £25

2 x 12l Steel Cylinders (out of test) - £250

AP Valves (Buddy) BK16 Twinning Bands - £40

Quesitons to be asked include:
1) what are the manufacture and last test dates of the cylinders?
2) do the cylinders come with bands, manifold, etc?
3) as they are out of test, when were they last used, how have they been stored and do they have any air in them still?
4) are they steel or ali?
5) when was the last time the regs were serviced?

If you know the guy, see if he will let you at the kit. Pull back strain reliefs on the hoses and check for any damage. Attach the regs to a good cylinder check the way they breath, it might be worth a quick clean in Milton (or similar) first if they have been stored for a while.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Mark

Yes looking to buy...

Quesitons to be asked include:
1) what are the manufacture and last test dates of the cylinders?

Good point.

2) do the cylinders come with bands, manifold, etc?

No manifold and buddy twinning bands as they are independants

3) as they are out of test, when were they last used, how have they been stored and do they have any air in them still?

Another good point

4) are they steel or ali?

Steel not Ali

5) when was the last time the regs were serviced?

I'll check.

I live pretty nearby so I would certainly be inspecting kit before buying. I wouldn't have though to take one of my tanks with me though.

Taking a tank to sale...

...is a little strong and may intimidate some people - just use the car.

Seriously though, I normally use my pony for this and if the guy is reluctant to let you try the regs then I would walk away from the lot.

I recently went to pick up some regs I bought on eBay and the guy was more than helpful - cofee, advice, general chat and all after the price had been agreed due to the auction. I have since used these regs on hols and they were fine, after getting them checked over and pressure tested by my LDS.

I did have some minor problems with the first set I bought s/h last year, one of the hoses failed quite spectacularly during a pool session and on looking I found damage below the strain relief on the other end. This was after I had used them in the open water though - refined my check procedures for s/h kit since then.

Regards

Mark

I'm looking at them tomorrow.

There will be a reel, dsmb and smb thrown in for another £10.

Aye, but factor in the cost of servicing the regs (which I would certainly want to do) and having the cylinders tested and 02 cleaned if necessary. Probably add at least £100 to your costs.

All in all though, if the stuff's in good nick it looks like a good deal.

The regs are actually in service (which makes me a lot happier) so just the tanks to worry about.
