Question How to build a twinset from scratch???

OK...not done this before and can't find the same question so I thought I'd ask it.......I am shortly to attempt to build a twinset from scratch myseld and need guidance. I have spoken to a friend who has built a few and he advises the following:

1. Drain air and remove valves from existing cylinder (assuming that existing valves won't accept a manifold.
2. Insert new lubricated (with O2 compat grease) valves (minus manifold) and tighten
3. insert new manifold loosely
4. slide on bands
5. tighten manifold and check that it rotates +/- 90 degrees
6. set manifold postion and tighten locknuts
7. tighten bands
8. pressurise cylinders to a set pressure
9. ensure manifold does not shift
10. measure pressure
11. leave cylinders for 2 hours or overnight and then recheck pressure
12. if no loss of pressure fine....otherwise drain air remove bands and manifold and retighten valves.

Is this correct or does someone have a different view???

Cheers.

Sounds good to me....don't overtighten anything.

Also you could try fitting the bands, tighten them and measure the centres between your valves, this would give you accurate manifold adjustment. Assuming your manifold is adjustable. Or di you buy the bands and manifold set together? Hopefully they will be compatable.

The link Jack gave is good, but there is also the guide on YD from Woz here
http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...anner+twinset# post145548 It is post number 66 in the thread.

When I built mine, I slid the bands on after I had finished hand tightening the manifold/tapping the cylinders with a mallet etc. It aint rocket science, and the most difficult bit was actually getting the manifold to engage simultaneously with both valves. You might need to adjust the manifold slightly when tightening the bands to ensure it is not stressed. Oh, and make sure you get decent bands - some of them are shite.

Personally, I make sure the bands are tight before setting the manifold in its final position - basically adjust them together. I found that when tightening the bands the tanks will move (closer together) and so if you've set the manifold in its final position before the bands are tight then you're going to be stressing something.

Just go slowly, and make sure everything's in line all the time.
