Isolation Manifold.

Just trying to check something in my head on an isolation manifold (Sanosub).

With a 1st stage on both posts and the gauge on the left hand post, should I be able to get a pressure reading on that post with just the right hand side open and the manifold open.

I'm confused, or I have a non functioning manifold.

no. the cylinders are connected 'below' the level of the regulators.

So with this being a fairly daft question then, how's the best way to know the manifold is open.

And is it best to dive with a gauge on each post to see that they breathe down evenly.

Well, I just turn the knob anticlockwise as far as it will go...

If the manifold was accidentally closed, you would be alerted to this problem by the gauge either a) not moving at all, or b) dropping faster than you expect - depends on which post you are using, and which reg you are breathing off.

Some people do that, not to check they drop at the same rate but for redundancy in case you need to shut one post down. Matter of preference. Most people I know just have one, usually on the left post.

If your set is full....

If your gauge shows no gas then your left post is closed.

If you can't breathe then your right post is closed.

If you find yourself saying 'gosh, I'm not using much air on this dive' - then your manifold may be closed

I had a gauge on each post and lots of people whinged about them- "you don't need two - extra failure points".

However I went to that configuration after the previous gauge failed on me. It didn't quite jam it just went down unbelievably slowly. After that I promoted it to the 'must have' category and if you must have something take two.

Thanks for your responses.

Lack of understanding as to the function of the manifold.

All I need now is all my regs to arrive.

And to set up the back plate and wing, and, and etc etc.

Cheers for the help.
