| Does my reg need a service I have recently come back from holiday and have just inspected the toll the diving has taken on my kit. A reg was flooded on the last day, not by me I might add, thought nothing of it at the time, just put the dust cap on stuck it in the bag and thought no more of it. I have now taken the dust cap off, having got home expecting some water to come rushing out, however nothing, which left me hopeful that maybe it was not fully flooded. Just to be sure I took off one of the hoses to have a look right inside the reg to see if all was dry. However a great rush off air came out. I can't really understand this the dust cap was not put on the reg under pressure, what has caused this air expansion. My guess is the water has gone stale inside and some rank little bugs, trapped inside have been filling my reg with gas??? Either way what do you peeps recon, is this a problem in need of the dreaded service or nothing to worry about, the reg is going in for O2 cleaning soon, so is this something that may sort out,HELP!! |

| Are you sure it was air coming out , and not air going in after depressurising on the flight.

| Others might disagree with me here, but this is my position: Regs are not only expensive items, but Most importantly, they keep you alive. A good service will cost, what? - £50 - £70? Never met you, but I would happily assume that your life is worth £70 - even if it may have been wasted. A very experienced BSAC instructor who was as tight as a ducks arse, once told me "If you can't afford or justify servicing ANY item of your kit that you are even remotely unsure of, then you absolutley no right to be diving. Pay your money and go home alive" My family live on my single income, and my wife would slap me silly with a plank of nailed wood if i even thought about risking diving with POSSIBLE faulty kit.

About the service, I know you will all probably say local dive store, but to be honest I would rather try servicing them blindfold, and I know nothing about servicing my reg, than let the people at either of my 2 local shops service them. I just don't trust them and their concentration spans. So can I send them back to apeks and get then to sercice them. Is this something any of you guys have ever tried/would recommend? |

| Just to back up what others have said. If in doubt get it serviced. Pretty sure your life is worth more than the cost of the service. Imagine yoru buying a electrical item from a hig street store.. Sir now the product blah blah, Warranty, Service. PEACE OF MIND... 30 Meters under thinking will my reg be ok? No thanks I would rather be rolling off the boat looking forward to the dive relaxed and ready to enjoy myself.

If you flood a first stage in salt water, and cannot do anything about it until you get home, it would be prudent to give it a thorough rinse out in fresh water. You really ought to be rinsing all of your kit after a salt water dive before travelling home. |
