| I know this is going to sound like an odd question, but I am just going to have a fettling session before the Farnes trip next week. I haven't used standard length hoses for a long time as my current kit is inverted. I have borrowed an unbungeed wing for next week so I can try one but that means I don't have the bungees to route my hoses through. Question is on a "normal" set is the back up reg just on a standard length hose, cos I can't rember and it's easier (famous last words) to ask you than keep changing things around. Who knows I might even dive the "other" way up next week |

| Cheers Noel, no still need to keep it under my chin. Afterall I don't want to change too much I'll go and dig out a standard length hose then. |

| Mine is a normal length hose from the left post, but then i breath off that not the AAS one which is bungeed. I do prefer it with a Right angle elbow joint to smooth the routing out as well. OK then that should send us off on a long winded tangent then

I could be wrong but none of the lengths Rob mentioned look familiar |

| Fiona - DIR hose lengths depend on what regulators are being used - scubapro regs allow shorter hoses on the back up and wing inflate, Apex require the lengths that Rob set out. If you have different regs from these (which I think you do) you may find you need different lengths. The DIR principle is only that you have a comfortable position for your back up - not too far down your chest that you can't reach it easily when you need to and also so it doesn't make a great big loop which goes over your shoulder. The opposite problem is having one so short that you can't turn your head to the left (which would take the fun out of diving rather). Like most things it is the princples which need to be looked at rather than sourcing kit with a tape measure.

| Cheers for the replies. I think I am just going to have to go with what I have and what will be safe. If changing to shorter hoses (wing inflate and backup) isn't going to be safe I will keep what I have and just try the differnt wing. At the moment it is just the wing inflator hose which is the real problem as I will have nowhere to stow the hose if I dive them my "normal / inverted " way round. And I know what you are all thinking - why am I changing everything and not testing it in sheltered water first. |
