Are all knobs the same?

Hi,

Now that I can finally do my shut downs (been wearing the harness too tight!), I'd like to swap the plastic knobs on my scubapro manifold.

Will the standard ones available from most dive stores fit?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Yes all the knobs should fit but I would suggest getting the rubber ones.

They are less likely to crack or split and I find them more tactile so your hand is less likely to slip when doing a shutdown.

Is this really likey?? Understand the tactile bit, but under normal use (i.e not silly deep or in caves) are they really likey to crack or split?

Just curious thats all....

It's the part that turns the shaft that cracks or splits, some are a plastic like material, the good ones are metal - I once had one that had been turned off so tight that when trying to turn it on it rounded off, was not impressed when dive guide took the knob off and turned it on with pliers.

As with all plastics it depends on how UV stable the plastic is. Ultra Violet (UV) light can have quite a bad affect on all plastics causing them to become brittle the longer they are exposed to sun light.

So as said, rubber knobs are a safer option and sherwood knobs seem to be the preferred option because of their length.

The soft rubber ones fair much better in impact situations over the hard plastic (brittle) ones.

To be honest I've never had one crack myself but as the others have said hard plastic has the propensity to crack if impacted and all plastics degrade when subjected to UV.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I was wanting the longer rubber knobs, I was just checking if they would fit the scubapro manifold, I don't know if these have a different fitting to the MDE etc...

Thanks,

Chris
