Question Difference: Ali7 207bar and Ali40

Hi

Apart from the cubic capacity and the fact that that the Ali7 weighs a bit more out of the water, what are the differences between these two cylinders?

In particular, the difference in physical size and buoyancy characteristics.

I have an Ali 80 and it is neutral at about 160bar with nitrox (real life, in water) what are the neutral points of those two cylinders?

I was using an Ali7 232 bar cylinder at the weekend, is that about the same size a the Ali7 207 bar?

I am looking at this as a rich mix bottle.

Ali 7s are a bit odd. Some float lovely and some sink like stones. It totally depends which sort you have. I believe (but i could be wrong) that the legal ones sink badly.

Ali 40s are lovely until they are below 100 bar at which point they become SMBs Some people put 2kg of lead on the Ali40s to overcome their horrible buoyancy issues some just put up with it but i tried one and it drove me mad with 50bar in.

The older ones weigh around 8.5 kg and are perfectly kosher, they float really nicely. The newer ones weigh an extra kilo and don't have such good buoyancy.

Brian has somehow managed to get hold of brand new 7ltrs with the old style weight and characteristics, 207bar 8.8kg rather than the heavier 9.8kg 232 bar versions. Supposed to be lovely, and as soon as I get some money . . . . .

I herd the old ones didnt have a CE mark because the wall thickness was too thin to conform to EU spec for ali high presure tanks.

You Big Girl. I don't even notice mine even when I suck it down to completely empty. Bobbles up behind you arm beautifully.

Now. I'm going to experiment with a 232b ally 10. Anyone used one of these before? I used on in t'Egypt and it was lovely.

7's kind of come and go tbh.

Always worth asking if you can't see something.

As it happens they're on the way in at the moment, which is why I took them off temp like.

Paul , get a 40 they're sex on legs !
