My Mate did mine with car paint looked really cool for the 1st couple of dives Nice Porsche metalic black.

It marks really easy.

Im thinking about Nickle plating or chrome next.

Plastic coating might be the way forward.

I seem to remember that anything involving heat treatment is not a good idea.

Ive allways wondered how hot though,

for example a cylinder quicky filled with air get pretty hot, much hotter than a baking oven for a car paint job.

A cylinder left in a car in summer would also get really hot.

I can imagine the heat altering the ( i cant remember the proper term ) Annealing or tempering or what ever of the cyl.

But what is that temp and can i get powder coated cylinders ?

the little buddy bottles have a warning on them not to put them in the oven (or something along those lines).

From Wikipedia to powder coat they have to heat the item to 200 deg C to cure the coating for 10 mins.

Would the Fu*k up the cylinder ?

I wouldn't; get saltwater trapped under the plastic and you'd be buggered.

I'd be looking at getting it sandblasted, zinc sprayed (not hot dipped!) and then painted. Did this on a cylinder of mine back in 1981 and I'm still using it and it has no rust to speak of and it's been hydro tested annually for the last 10 yrs.
