Hmmmmm and risk losing a lot of custom, maybe they will see sense as it is only a recommendation.

Isn't this rather premature? I bet most of those shops don't know for certain what will happen yet - most will wait and see what everyone else (including the customer) does. At the minute, the list will include pretty much every dive shop in the UK, and might shrink over time.

The opposite would be more useful, as they appear add the shops which refuse to fill cylinders with DIN. It would be a much smaller and more maintainable list.

True, but being Devils advocate if shops see that others in their area are drawing a line in the sand then it may make them see that the potential sale of a valve may result in a loss of custom in the long term.

Shirley anything that gives the customer an idea of where to spend their money can't be a bad thing can it?

Safe diving,
Steve

Fair point but I think Steve's post has a lot of merit. and to quote Gary at Slough Scuba "as long as this shop is here you'll be able to get a fill on the old thread".

I think that knowing which LDS's etc are there for the service and which are there to sell us new valves is good info.

True. But the list would be basically "these shops are good, but as the list is incomplete there are a lot of other good shops too". So it won't stop anyone shopping anywhere, because they won't know until they turn up that the shop isn't on the list because it's a "bad" shop, and not just one that no one has checked before.

Given the sparsity of dive shops, i'm not going to drive all the way to one of the 8 currently on the list just because I know they definitely do do nitrox. However, if I knew that maybe one of the few that are local to me didn't do it, i'd know to avoid them.

Hi David,

I take your point and obviously it's a work in progress, hopefully divers will ask at their LDS what they intend to do and post accordingly.

It's not intended as a Witch hunt but a means of planning fills for those of us who have no intention of changing valves and regulators.

I'm sure as time passes it will become apparent which stores/centres won't fill 'old' bottle valves but to start that list now AFAIC would be premature.

Safe diving,
Steve

9) I seem to recall Dave of Dive Dorset saying he would some time ago. Not sure if that bit is part of what Smudge has bought or if Dave and Liisa have retained it.
