As far as Mares goes, a long hose is a long hose. Anybody's will do, as long as it's not Poseidon or the silly Apeks fitting.

Why Mares hoses? Any hose will do the job. You can get custom length hoses from lots of suppliers. Try Scuba Diving equipment at divingniknaks if you can't get locally - they posted stuff out to us in Luxembourg and it got there the next day.

Mares don't make long hoses

Generic ones fit though

Some of the manufacturers have a wide diameter hose which they use as a sort of damping device, my Oceanics have this feature, std tappings at both ends though. I think my Mares are similar (been ages since I even looked at them). However I used my Oceanics inverted with standard hoses, no problem at all, perhaps the longer hose has the same internal volume as a standard Oceanic fat one

You can use the AP Valves re-usable fittings so a decent LDS will be able to make any length you need. I'd suggest you also get a long bcd hose so it can go over your sholder, spg hoses should be fine as std.

Matt

The MR22 first stage has a funny fitting just inside the threads, so you need a "speshul" one

Mikes in Upminster do them, or they used to. . .

I've got one for my Abyss. Looking at it, it doesn't actually say 'Mares' on the side, but it does have the long white line along its length. The fitting at the 1st stage end looks very similar to the standard large bore one (ie not the standard LP fitting). I know the sticky out bit Steve is talking about, but it seems to be OK on mine. Can do you a photo if that would help.

cheers,

Ben

Thanks for the replies lads but NO the std or generic hoses don't do. Well at least the beaver ones don't. The funny sticky out thing inside the first stage primary port on the MR22 is the same on the V32 and thus believe it must be a Mares only thing as no other manufacturer i've seen has that. The second stage connection is different too, I know the scubapro hoses don't fit either.

Wud be intrested in a photo of what you've done ben. Might be able to come up with some solution if i can't get some proper ones.

Thanks
Jonny

This is what mine looks like:
PB070002.JPG
Afraid the first stage is in for a service at the moment so I can't put one up of the pin in the first stage port. I've just had a look at the MR22 service manual, and it doesn't even mention that port - the others are referred to as 3/8", the standard LP port size.

Mares is now owned by Head (I think), and they're service to shops has apparently gone right downhill. It may be the case that while they used to be able to get the long hose Mares now don't bother making it these days?

Good luck,

Ben

You could try somewhere like Miflex (Miflexhoses high performance diving and electrical appliance hoses.) to see if they will make some up (maybe even use the existing fittings). I'm assuming you cannot blank off the port and use the standard ones for some weird reason?

Me, I'd be looking at ebay right now and the Apeks catalogue...... (or leave the cans the right way up )
