Turning singles to twin

Hi I am looking at buying my own bottles, I have been using my clubs for about 4 years.

I want to go twin some one soon, but female politics at home is forcing me to just buy a single at the mo.

How easy or advisable is it to buy a single 12 now and another 12 some time soon, a manafold later etc? Can you just whip out the valve to make up a twin and visa versa?

Or should I just go get a 15l and bother with twins later?

As I understand when twins are posted etc they come unassembled any way?

Any thoughts would be cool

You have to be sure that you get the same size as different cylinders have different weights and lengths, This is a pain as when you put them down you can twist the manufold and the bands won't fit properly.

Just get your single now then flog it when you upgrade to a twinset when your ready.

The other option is to not tell your wife, or make up the equaly stupid tale that that belong to your mates, they were discounted, second hand Ect Ect.

OK....people will tell you that you have to have the same size cylinders or they'll twist the manifold etc.

Lobbocks.

Your bands should be good quality and matched to the manifold (I use AGIR bands as they are the widest and as good as the Highland Mills which I believe are no longer made).

Once your bands are on these are what are holding your cylinders in place.

If your bands are cheap and cheerful then yes there is the possibility of movement but it's remote.

When you shift your cylinders around you'll never get both cylinders grounding at the same time so saying your stressing the manifold by having different height cylinders also applies to having cylinders that are the same height....unless you've calibrated arms so that they lower the cylinders perfectly every time.

this helps but also some try to bribe the wife would help. I know the feeling !

I am not no expert on twins but i think 15lts twins would be dead heavy. I tried to lift 12lts twins were also heavy........

That has got to be the best bit of advice ever.

Get a single now, and twins later. Realistically you will need both anyway.

I dont use my single very often but there are times you will still want to dive a single tank !

Why not buy the twins and pull them apart and hide the other bits, blank off the manifold connection and then use as a single for a bit and buy the rest "second hand" in a years time.

Go on, you know it makes sense.

MyM

ps, as you might have guessed I'm single

If you're going out on a boat for the day, don't you need two singles anyway?

You could do as above but also factor in a 'gift' to SWMBO. You're going to pay say 350quid for your twins, so budget 450 and get her something for the 100 change (an iron or some twangers out of Ann Summers would do )
