so why do dive shops get so upset about it ???

could you explain how you would be liable as theres no requirement for a diving ticket to dive and no legal requirements for buying gas??

I'd expect to be asked for my cert card....but I never have been....Anywhere.......I've just been asked to fill the log which I do.....and the space where it says cert.....I just stick TDI Adv Nitrox if i don't happen to have my cert card with me at the time (which has been about 4 times in the past year).

They are not but it's the threat of legal action that prompts people to enforce rules that arn't rules.
(An opinion not a fact as I can't think why shops would turn away business if not for this reason)

Maybe you would expect a conscientious operator to ask (ignoring the LDS who know you scenario), I would.

I would feel better about handing over my regs to be serviced etc. to someone i thought was conscientious, choosing to check certs, regardless of requirements to do so.

Had to present it for a 32% in my twins last weekend at Capernwray...

Every time I've had a nitrox fill I've been asked for my cert.

However, the one time I didn't have it, I was OK because the place I was getting the fill from had already seen my cert in the past so I was trusted.

Jobsworth bullshit. I can't recall the last time I was asked to justify the purchase of nitrox or trimix.

I could kill myself with any number of products I could buy in my local pharmacy or even Tesco. They don't seem overly concerned.

I could jump in the water with a cylinder of air and kill myself too.
