I'd feel a lot happier getting my regs serviced by someone who just checks stuff he is required to & treats his customers as adults

quite right, i agree totally.

to answer the question, i'd expect to be asked though.

There are a couple of tangents here I guess/
1:Most (if not all) people have access to a nitrox computer or nitrox tables. BSAC teach Nitrox as a matter of course but Put Another Dollar In like you to pay for a course to be able to breath this "exotic" gas. You can debate the why's and where-for's till the cows come home but given the proliferation of deco info I do not see how having a cert card will make you any safer to dive Nitrox than someone that sat and read about it and then went out and dived it.
This leads to point 2:
What's the legality of a dive shop refusing to fill 02 clean tins because you can't flash the plastic? I understand they can tell you to bugger off if you cannot show clean tins but what's the thoughts of those that fill tins/own LDS'?
Genuine question btw and I'm cross agency with no axe to grind (apart from my playful dig at PADI (who taught me to dive))
Cheers
Paul

I don't think a shop has to give a reason for refusing service, not wise from a business sense obviously, but their choice ATEOTD.

Safe diving,
Steve

That'll be why I've managed to persuade them to fill my bottles even when I've not had my cert card I guess.
Cheers

hmm,

I suppose you'll hear that it'd be negligent to do the fills of mix / nitrox without seeing the cert. card.

The question is... would the LDS owe you a duty of care in this regard? Difficult one, as you don't need a ticket to buy lots of things that'll kill you.

Yes.

Ive never been asked anywhere for a card to buy a nitrox fill of any sort (even >50% rich mixes).

Its not a legal requirement.

Not going to argue with you too much, as I don't really have a particularly strong feeling on this. Just that, if a shop owner has decided he wants to be sure who he is selling Nitrox to, fair enough. Better than someone who just ticks boxes.

There is of course a lot of middle ground between those two extremes!

Dan.

I normally get nitrox from stoney (OK I know its cheaper the other side of brum but I can't be arsed driving over there for the sake of the cost of a pint).

Every time I go I am always asked for my card, except if James or Mick are on the panel as they know me and I did my PADI nitrox cert with the school.

I had to drive 20 mins home and back a few weeks ago on a Friday afternoon as I had forgot my card. What I was most annoyed about my name was still on the sheet from the Monday and I was diving there the next day!
