Spraying cylinders

Can I spray my cylinder? Some one told me if I spray my cylinder that no one would fill it as it has to be special paint. If I keep the black & white crown and use decent paint that's upto the job then I can't see the harm.
Does anyone have the definitve answer to this? Thanks.

I've sprayed two of mine. I put masking tape over the shoulder stamps and nobody cared.
