Use of Drager composite cylinder

Hi People, for various (very good) reasons I want to clamp a Drager composite cylinder to the side of my rig. These are designed for land based breathing apparatus. I'm wondering if there are any issues with using them under water. I can't foresee any problems but there again, it's worth asking the question....

saw a thread recently that mentioned salt water getting under the fibre wrap and hiding corrosion, but cant remember the details

Agreed i tried diving with an old BA cylinder these are composite as well but to get the lead was ridiculous

I've checked the buoyancy and with regulator and hose etc it's neutral (+/- 0.5kg dependent on gas) which is exactly what I want.

I need a DS inflation supply to mount on the side of the fibreglass shell of an RB. Dry weight is 3.5kg. Any steel or Al. cylinder will be much heavier than this and would stress the fibreglass much more. With the valve at the top it will trim fine as the RB needs lead in the top anyway to balance the CL's. 1kg comes out of the top and goes onto the belt.

I'm just interested in how constant immersion in salt water may affect it.

Cheers
Ian

not designed for constant immersion in water, especially salt water as this will get underneath the outer fibre layer and corrode the thin steel inner bottle.

why not get yourself a small dedicated ali 1 - 1.5L suit inflator bottle which can be attached to the wing backplate, or even to the side of your sub?
