New Reg Choice.

Just got back from a weeks diving and after using my Dacor Viper metal regs I think its ermm.......time for a change when my bank account recovers a little bit.

The regs I have were given to me by a mate and are in tip top condition and serviced but..................... I wouldn't say they give the best ease and comfort of delivery.

I previously had a set of Mares Abyss and from memory about 5 years ago they were a different class to the Dacor (I think they are now both owned by the same company) and I notice there is an updated Abyss on the market now.

Anyway I thought about either the Apeks ATX50 or a Mares Abyss.

I would like a good compact 1st and 2nd stage so thoughts please.

i dived an abyss for 7 years, including a period of diving every day for a while. never got it serviced and never had any problems. great reg , but a little heavy. eventually it died.

now diving xtx40s. less stylish, but do the job. you'll get lots of recommendations for them on YD.

Apexs for me - they are bombproof, good reputation, easily serviced most places in the world, usually plenty of spares kicking around onboats - oh and they are made in the UK.

Some great deals on the ATX 40s around at present - I just got a new set - and with the only difference between the 40 and 50 an adjustable knob I prefer the 40.
