Question Fitting a mesh sleeve to a 12L cylinder

Hi all,

I've just got a plastic mesh sleeve to protect my shiny new cylinder for bumps and scrapes. I understand the best way to fit it, is to trap the bottom end into the boot.

Before i start the task, is there any advice to be had from previous mistakes or a "knack" to removing and replacing the boot?. So far, due to the tightness of the boot, my thoughts are on the lines of gentle persuasion with a piece of wood and a hammer. Would heating the boot with warm water or a hairdrier help?. Probably doing it tonight, advice appreciated.

Is there a reason you want to fit a mesh ?

I know I had one for protection when I first started to dive but it was left loose which meant there was no need not to keep removing it, by trapping it in the boot you aren't going to remove and wash it.

If I had a single now I wouldn't bother with a mesh.

Hi Chap... I used to just put the mesh on, and never considered putting the mesh in the boot.... however, now I just don't bother. None of my tanks have mesh on.

I wouldn't apply too much heat to your cylinder if it's full! I don't use mesh now but when I did I didn't bother trapping it under the boot. It doesn't slip if your cam band is tight enough.

Lovely New Shiney Tanks...Ooohhhhh

Problems is, cover them in mesh and you cant see them!

Mesh soon looks tatty and is a pain - especially when centres start having to take it off to see VIP stickers and test dates.

I used to use mesh but now tend to go for the "well used" look.

I agree. Wish mine hadn't got mesh, must get round to removing it.

Everyone who fills them moans they can't see the test dates and sometimes even insist on taking it off. As I have steel bands round them over the mesh incase I want to take my pony down this is a real pain in the a**
