| Okey Dokey, here goes, yep it's late so bear with me! Apeks However, in the past, when my mates have all had their Apeks regs serviced by (yes) reputable dealers etc, they have found their regs freeflow pretty much as soon as they hit the water. This I have found is quite simply because these regs have been serviced in nice, warm workshops when the diaphrams are all nice and loose and supple. Now then, when these newly serviced regs are subjected to the bloody horrible cold water that they are really expected to work in, they freeflow, simply because the diaphrams have gone all stiff and contracted due to the cold, therefore "shrinking" and depressing the actuating lever that allows the air to free flow. You can (tho don't take my word for it, it may be late, but I don't feel up to being sued "coz he told me to....") unscrew the hose from the reg and unscrew the valve screw inside by about a quarter turn (that's anti-clockwise), re-assemble the hose/reg again and turn on the gas. Now see how it performs. Of course, If you have ANY doubt about your ability to perform this, (indeed, if you take your own life seriously) you should take the regs to your LDS/manufacturer and tell them what's happening and don't expect to have to pay for what is essentially their problem! They (the regs) are expected to work properly in our usual temperatures. Anything said here pertaining to diving, has no bearing on my real job!

| Right. Don't unscrew the valve in the hose by 1/4 turn. That's miles. I bet you a fadjillion pounds it's nothing to do with the IP. See that allen key hole in the non-hose side? Screw that in by 1/2 a turn. The hissing is from the seat bedding in and is really common on Apeks regs. The balance pressure just needs tightening a smidge. If it doesn't stop hissing after 1/2 a turn on that then the seat height needs adjusting but you do this in tiny tiny increments- think hardly moving the seat screw at all. You unscrew it to lift the lever up and screw it in to drop the lever down (it's counter-intuitive but that's how they work). You might want to get a pair of twiddle knobs from here for £6.95 each so you can do this in the water or on the boat... SCUBA products A/X/TX40 to A/X/TX50 conversion

| What Brian & Woz said so no point in replying! This has happened to all of my Apeks regs bought new and takes two minutes to fix. |

| I had a different problem with my new XTX40 Every time you breathed in or pressed the purge valve you got an AWFUL lot more air than you were expecting. It turns out that when the handedness was changed, the sleave on the valve thingy down the middle of the reg wasn't rotated. thus the air outlet was blowing straight into the exhaust valve, causing a sudden pressure drop, causing the diaphram to suck in press the lever and deliver more air. |

| I resently bought a new legend lx supreme reg and have had the same problem, (the legends are made by apex and badged for aqua-lung) I work in a dive store and as I am qualified as a technician I thought no problem and gave them a tweak but this did not sort the problem. My new reg is now on its way back to the factory for them to have a look at as even with a new service kit the interstage pressure would not hold at 9.5 bar. |
