SCR (SUBMATIX) & the VR2

Firstly I must admit to being somwhat new to RB so I thought you folk could answer some questions. Had my ST 100 (single mix nitrox) SCR since Dec. Did a course with Abyss and Penny Glover at NDC (Now theres a woman who knows theres only 24 hrs in a day but gets 26 out of herself and you!!) Dived Falmouth, Lyme and Swanage since. Having fun BUT does anyone else dive SCR? Not much on these boards? Any one else on SCR using VR2, does it anoy you that PO2 shown only for a few seconds and FO2 shown perm (from cell) Does anyone agree it would be more helpful to show PO2. Any one elses strap holder (By screw pin) snapped). Any other PO2 monitors around? (as can put 2nd P con into c/lung) Submatix do one at around £350 but thats big bucks after getting the VR2. Unit has proved more rubust than it looked, dropped it, sat on it and kicked it but still in one piece!

hi john when i first got my scr and a vr3 and plugged the two together i first thought it was silly to show the fio2 rather that ppo2 but when you think about it it makes more sense in a scr
showing a po2 would give you no idea what is happening with your injectors as it will fluctuate to much to give a good indication, and you should have already worked out your MOD to your tank mix
but because your fio2 doesn't vary much unless your working hard it is a good indicator of blocked jets if it starts to fall which it will do even if you descending, where a po2 will start to rise but no gas is going in!

you can always make a po2 meter your self they are very easy to make or a guy in the usa called mark monroe makes a great kit you can put together www.ppo2.com
or there is the dreager oxygauge but these are prone to flooding!
kind regards john routley

Thanks, I've been looking at the site that you mention and, given enough time, and with a little assitance this would make me a great 'at a glance' PO2 monitor. Working out the total cost with the housing is a little difficult. Any one over here running this gear?

Saw your piece on another board. Interesting choice, what drew you to this unit. I was drawn to the Submatix on ease of use (for the type of diving I do) and price had a big influence. Good to see a range of units being dived.

Currently I dive an Azimuth (Only slightly modified) with a VR3 link.

Wouldn't have it any other way... better deco info and also a view of mix in the bag.

Agree on the comments above around fiO2 rather than ppO2... much easier to understand for SCR looking at fiO2, gives a better view as to whether you have a problem with the nitrox flow and also need to remember that for SCR you are effectively working with a fixed Nitrox mix (depending on workrate etc) in the breathing loop rather than a fixed pO2.

There are a couple of other Azi users on the board and quite a few SCR's.
