| Don't matter once stolen stays that way forever until returned to rightful owner. Further more buying it is termed as handling stolen goods which is a criminal offence regardless of the fact you were not the initial theif and you only have a defence if you payed the going rate for it and had no knowledge or suspicion that it was stolen. So if you bought it for say £100 which is well under the true value you'd struggle to prove you didn't suspect it was stolen. Same applies if you buy it from some guy in a pub or at a "Boot fair" it's not a usual outlet for such specialised equipment therefore the law says you should be suspicious it's up to you to provide a resonable account for your possession of stolen goods. By the way theft is punishable by 10 years in clink and handling by 14 years on the principle no handlers no market for stolen goods. However we all know an hours community service is a more likely outcome for the tealeaves |
