Smile London Triathlon 6th August 2005

Right. After a bit of discussion in this thread:

http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...ewpost&t=10798

there seems to be a bit of enthusiasm for the London Sprint Triathlon 6th August 2005 (www.thelondontriathlon.com).

Gives us plenty of time to train, and gets us all fit and shapely for diving. 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run. Now you'll all be individually responsible for entering the event but if we want to get teams together (one swims, one cycles, one runs) then drop messages here. I'll be doing the individual sprint event for Fat Bastards.

We'll probably meet up somewhere in Excel beforehand just to say hello and have a laugh at Digger's shopper bike then meet up afterwards for backpatting, fizzy pop and Wagon Wheels. Or maybe a curry and laaaaaaarger.

As for sponsorship, I'll probably be doing it for Tommy's (premature and stillbirth charity) as Kitfondle keeps the lifeboats happy but if you would like to do your own thing then off you go.

If you would like to join in, copy and paste the list into your reply and add your name(s) on the end. Now how do I get this onto the upcoming trips thingy...

So- people who have said "arrrrrrr" so far are...

1. Woz (that's me)
2. Digger (if he survives that long with that rebreather)
3. Bottle Monkey (if the compressor doesn't have him first)
4. Noel Johnson (unbelievably apparently)
5. And (and I am serious)
6. Lou (maybe in a team?)
7. Paul Oliver (team place please)
8. Simon TW (looks like no. 3 in a team there with Lou and Paul)

Might be tempted out of retirement.

I used to be involved quite a bit in triathlon. Before I was a cop the family had a cycle shop. We were the only place in the North that specialised in bikes and gear for triathletes. I was never much good at it myself personally. Back in those days with the non-drafting cycling rules the swimmers had the advantage and my freestyle swimming is pants.

I had to quit cycling after my back injury as just sitting on a bike for any time is too painful. I don't even own a bike now, but for a decent cause I might give it a go if I can borrow a bike. I'll try a few miles and see if I'm up for it. If not I can certainly help out those doing it with a few tips. It's all in coping with the transitions!

Sorry Woz, but I hadn't realised it was the 6th and 7th - come on I did reply at 4 in the morning - and I'll be sunning myself in the Red Sea...

Sorry.

Hell, why not

OK, I'll give it a try. Might take 3 days to finish, though
