| Guys, This was supposed to happen at the YD drinksfest in Leeds, but people were too innebriated and i forgot ![]() This year has been a bad year. We have quietly lost some members. Many divers set out to do what we do every weekend and never came back. We should all take a moment to remember these people. Just like us. We have gained a lot of members too. Although many of us will never meet, we are a close group of friends. I proposed a collection to the DDRC. If people want to send me cheques (make them payable to the DDRC) i will be more than pleased to collate and organise the money and send it off to them with a letter saying thanks for all they do, and who it is from. I will put my address on my profile again, so you can send them. I will put a deadline on this of 1st Febraury 2005. This gives you plenty of time to sort Christmas out, get your backsides into gear and send me the cash. But please take a moment, as you have your family around you, presents under the tree, happy smiling faces, that there are families out there who are missing a member due to the sport we all enjoy. Thanks all. I hope to be sending a very fat envelope off to them in February.

| Sage words Doll. The DDRC are there (along with the RNLI) top help save ALL our sorry arses - whether we have to use them or not!!! Can I please ask everyone - regardless of the YD Christmas drinks gig (north, south, midlands, Jockland etc.) - you attended, to send a chq for what ever amount (minimum £2) to Helen (Porg) as we have few other worthy causes in what we do! Please give - you might need these people one day - and when you do, you'll be thankful!

| Just to show how thick I am - is DDRC just down south or is it a national organisation?, does it have several "branches"? Is it the same as the RNLI, but for diving related diseases? Enlightenment required. James

A fair question. AFAIK, DDRC is Plymouth only. 1x50m chamber and 2x250m chambers. Mainly used for medical treatments other than dive related incidents. However they are involved in research, so perhaps something they come across may be used in treatment or even prevention in your area. If your local chambers are also part funded by charity, I would say put the money in their pot. Oh nice punnage there. Adrian

| http://www.ddrc.org/ The DDRC - I hoped the clue might be in the name...... Diving Diseases Research Centre. They have a pot there, which they use to treat divers, but they also do research into all manner of diving related illness, and issues such as diving with diabetes, asthma, disabilities, narcosis, the long term effects of diving on us and the effects of bends and their treatment. This research does not just benefit divers living in the south, it benefits us all.
