| k'n hell....! my insurance is with lloydsTSB! it's quite clear about the depth limit though - i'm assuming most people would be like me and double check any restrictions on the policy - which is why i also have DAN cover...! |
| ||||
| Just checked mine. depth of qualification. F'in hell... is it compulsory for me to go that deep?

| Some companies specify 'as long as you are diving within the limits of your qualification.' Which can make a big difference!

| The question remains, was the gent qualified to go deeper than 30m. If so then why did he choose LloydsTSB? One of the first questions that we ask is how deep are we covered for. One instance gave 18m max. even though we are qualified to go a little deeper. Obviously we didn't purchase it!!! The moral of the story is don't go deeper than you're qualified and always check the small print. Am equally gutted for the bloke though and wouldn't wish his injury on anyone. Scubanut

| Any chance of weasling out of paying will be used by insurance companies so I always use Divemaster for abroad top up and my life assurance covers me to my qualification depth. Hope the publicity makes them have a change of heart. Safe diving, Steve

| No surprise really given the track record of insurance companies.... Sorry for the guy - hope it sorts out, but always remember these people are dishonest shitbags before you sign anything. Chris (DAN btw)

| Poor guy - obviously BSAC - stuck to the 50m max on air 'recommendation'. There goes the kids inheritence Seriously though, I really hope he recovers soon and maybe a bit of pressure or adverse publicity on the insurance company may result in a quiet ex-gratia payment - especially if the 'depth limit' was tucked away. | Based on the report, a dive to nearly 50m is much more likely to cause DCI than 30m given the dehydration status. Saying the depth was not a factor sounds foolish. Probably not a popular view point but I am with the Insurance company....they are not trying to weasel out of it....they have set their premiums on the basis of the risk of paying out. Covering people to 50m would increase the risk and therefore the premiums. I do feel for the inidividual concerned but there are policies which would have covered him. Mal |
