| Note to self - do not drink Guinness and agree to do silly things... Well we rolled up at the Roodee racecourse this morning at 10.30 - bloody hell it was cold. We were told the going was good to firm, but in reality the ground was a bit hard from the cold weather... I got kitted up into my gear - I chose a 3mm shorty wetsuit for a balance of thermal protection against the elements and keeping cool after a few laps. Cylinder was a 7L from DivingNackers no less, my chosen mix 50% o2, as I was sure I was going to need it with the anticipated run-time. I chose my Buddy CommandoTD jacket as i didn't want to carry the 3kg of stainless backplate from my twin set-up... Now then - the other difficult part was I had to also carry a bloody great frozen turkey round with me 'n all... It being a necessary part of the turkey-trot rules... Bugger... The best I could do was take a small kit-bag and fit the carry handles with bolt-snaps, i then carried the turkey side-slung on the left DIR style I got through the first section ok though the 50'cent didn't last too long - I had to limp the last two laps as I'd done my left foot in and couldn't put any weight on it... Bugger again... I am now going to sit in a radox bath for two hours and have a snooze... Thanks to everyone that sponsored me - i'll chase you all up when I feel my legs again.... |
