| Yeah, this is destined to be a great event (the organisation is very thorough). A number of our club members are doing some of the graveyard shifts. In fact 4 of us are scheduled to be underwater together doing the switch over at midnight: fun! ![]() |

| More info on the event Atlantic Divers are a central Scotland independent dive club and have successfully carried out this event to raise funds for the Cash For Kids appeal The event was a 24 hour dive held in the open sea at the Quarryview Tearoom on Loch Fyne. The aim of the event was to have at least two divers continuously underwater over a 24 hour period. This was achieved by operating a relay system in which each buddy team spent a period of 30 minutes underwater, they would then wait until the next two divers submerged before surfacing. Each buddy pair descended 5 minutes before their 30 minute slot and then took 5 minutes to ascend so each pair was actually in the water for 40 minutes. Most of the buddy pairs carried out two 40 minute dives over the 24 hour period. To facilitate the event an underwater course was set up with a deco station set at 6m, from this a fixed rope then descended to 10m which run for 70m, this allowed the divers to swim out for 10 minutes and get back to the deco station in time for the next pair of divers descending. The 24 hours was split into 48 x 30 minute slots, and we had 58 divers taking part from various diving organisations throughout Scotland. We also has 14 surface support staff, all those who agreed to take part in the event turned up on time even though it was raining heavily and blowing a gale for 20 hours! Planning the event took over three months and required a massive logistical effort, the site was fully flood lighted for the night time section. If you would like to find out how much this event has raised log on to our website in the next few weeks Atlantic Divers - Home We would be grateful if you could make a donation towards the charity, details can also be found on our website along with photos of the event. If you want to contact someone in our club please contact either Ian or James at: Ian@atlantic-divers.co.uk or James@atlantic-divers.co.uk |
