Shark Trust.... Want to know more?

As you may or may not know, Shark Trust is a charity which works towards the conservation of sharks. All 400+ species.

I recently conducted a poll here which made me wonder how many divers know about the excellent work they do, why they do it, and how we, as divers, can help. Not many people owned up to being members, some even hadn’t heard of Shark Trust.

The diving community is probably the only group who see the shark in its natural environment, other than thrill seekers going on cage dives, of course! How many time has the highlight of your holiday been the shark? How envious do you get when someone else saw one you missed?

In many parts of the country, there are Shark Trust volunteers who are prepared and more than willing to come to your dive club, or any other interested group to give a presentation. It won’t cost anything - our time is free. It would be fantastic if we managed to convince some of your members of the benefits of contributing to the cause, and I am sure you will excuse us if we pass a collecting bucket around!

If you are involved in a club, please contact me, and if you are near enough, I will come, or I will put you in touch with one of my co-volunteers to arrange something. It will be a hugely informative talk and we have some interesting pictures and footage to show.

It isn’t only dive clubs we will come and talk to, either. We will go to any group of concerned people...WI, Rotary, Round table.. whoever is interested in this vital ecolgy issue.

When we first had someone come to our club, there was a committee discussion about it, but after it happened, everyone said how interesting it was, they all learned something from the talk, and some of the pics we have are really thought provoking.

Divers can chat on forums and down the pub about how awful things like sharkfinning and how certain species are under threat, but this is a chance for them to do something positive about it.

Its a long way!!!

I can do it, or i can get someone who is a bit closer to do it, who would have the same info, but may be not the witty sense of humour. We can do it on a club night, or at most other times to suit, although weeekday daytime amy be more tricky as we mostly have day jobs.

Shark trust have recently set up a whole group of people who can cover the majority of the country, and we have all come from different backgrounds, although the group i trained with were mostly divers.

I will Pm you my phone number, give me a call and we can discuss how we can set this up.
