I'll give the RNLI £5 for every diver who...

comes along to a gliding evening at Lasham, near Basingstoke.

For £40 you get an areotow up to 2500 feet above the airfield - that's half a mile up! Next, you drift gently downwards whilst flying the plane (full instructions are given ). Just in case you can't quite manage the landing without bending the glider, there's a fully qualified instructor sitting in the seat behind you!

You also become a member of the club for 3 months so you can try it again if you like.

We would meet at the airfield at 6pm, sign in and then have the airfield safety briefing. After that it's onto the field for the flight. Afterwards there may well be time for a beer in the bar. Or maybe 2 - you never know, I might even stump up for a round.

Come on, see if you can all bankrupt me in aid of the RNLI. It would probably take place on a Wednesday or Friday evening. If you are interested, please post a reply giving the preferred day of the week. May or June would be the best time - I'll try to organise a date to suit the most people.

The brave can even try some aerobatics (depends on the instructors who are there on the day). Upside down without an engine anyone???

Bring (s)he who must be obeyed and I'll donate £5 for them as well if they fly.

Cheers, Chris

PS You get to wear a parachute for those 'sh1t happens' moments, but (probably) won't get a chance to try it out

BTW, I get nothing out of this apart from a duff bank balance and the (obvious) pleasure of meeting you.

Hampshire - southwest of London. Might be a bit far for you!

Ooooh I did that once, about 10 years ago, much good fun, despite me not being good with heights! I'd never flown in my life, so to go up for the first time in a plane with no engine was a tad scary, especially as I say, not doing heights
But it was great, and I loved looking down on the bedspread... erm I mean map-looking countryside...

Talking Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife bought me a "try flight" for a birthday present many years ago

Result:
1. Joined the gliding club the next week
2. Qualified
3. Bought a glider

However, eventually gave it up because family arrived - then eventually started diving (again)

Seriously, have a go - its great fun
