By the way Adrian 3 cheques winging their way over to you and that will probably be the final money to come in.
Will be exciting to see how much we've managed to raise!

You two have done an excellent job!! Thanks!

My own thoughts are it would be good to do something that's not likely to encourage a political debate and is also something to do with diving/of benefit to divers.

My suggestion would be the Sharktrust as well.

Undersea Medical Research

Funding for undersea research has not really changed since the late 70's to early 80's. What time and money I don't put into our work goes to the groups below:

UHMS Research Foundation
DAN's Research Endowment or Research Internship program
Women Divers Hall of Fame™ (WDHOF) for their Educational Scholarships

But would agree with:

the Marine Conservation society

something like Shark Trust would be good.

I'd go for RNLI again.
Because we would rely on them in a crisis.

Otherwise The Marine Conservation Society. It makes sense to protect our seas and everything in them rather than just one species.

Well I think I have said it before, but Help for Heroes gets my proposal. I don't agree with all that our forces are being told to do, but that does not mean I think those who are injured should be ignored either.

I am with Adrian on this and think it would make an apolitical gesture from YD members stating that regardless of our opinions about war we appreciate and support the sacrifices that many in our forces have made.
By showing support we neither condone or condemn warfare but offer help in what must be very difficult circumstances.

There are many excellent charities out there and I will be more than happy to donate some cash and time to whatever we choose. It seems quite a fun thing to get involved in too so I'd be happy to get involved and give it a go trying to help push this along if anyone fancies giving me a hand?

On the off chance that this might be a popular one (and because I didn't want to leave it too long incase he forgot me!) I dropped Monty a line to see what his thoughts were. I got this response this morning...

Obviously I’m all for the Help for Hero’s charity. YD represents the beating heart of the diving community, so if we could get YD on board, as far as I’m concerned it’s getting diving on board.

I’d be delighted to help out with any charity fund raising event. I’ve had an idea of doing a “The Meaning of Bravery” speaking evening at the RGS? We could get veterans from Afghanistan / Iraq, but also Bruce Parry (ex RM), Bear Grylls (ex SAS), and from the diving community Mike Rutzen, Sara Campbell, Rick Stanton – the really hairy bummed pioneers. What a night that would be! All proceeds to H4H’s, and co-ordinated by YD and me? What do you think?

Obviously I’m out of the loop from April 5th until late in the Summer, but we could look at this as a pre-christmas event? That, combined with YD’s traditional fund raisers, would raise a huge amount I’m sure.

Anyway, in summary I’m delighted to help out any way I can, and thanks for the offer of support. By the way, feel free to post this email on the site if you wish.

Best, Monty “ as camp as a row of tents” Halls"

This is obviously a charity close to Monty's heart however this shouldn't sway YD's choice of charity. I just wanted to let everyone know... Monty is obviously a good egg all round and so may well be happy to get involved with something even if it isn't this particular charity... No harm in asking!

Si
