but being a diving website kind of leans you towards supporting a charity thats diving related, that way the fundraising is all encompassing and relevant to all on the site.

I obviously missed the fun last year as i was preparing to go away. Who would have thought that a thread about doing good could get so controversial!

I think people who already have a charity close to their hearts will always put it first. That's why i suggested a poll to decide whether or not to go purely with diving related charities. At the end of the day i am sure the money raised will go to a good cause and that is really what matters.

Now i think i shall unsubscribe from this thread and wait to cast a vote.

Well...

12th Morley Scout Group gets my vote, or if we're restricted to a diving theme...Shark Trust.

Cheers, Paul

Sheffield Children's Hospital is a charity close to my heart and does some fantastic work - plus it's in Yorkshire!

I feel if we're considering a non-dive related charity, then they are definitely worth a mention.

Completely agree and it's a place that's also very, very close to home for me personally as well. However whilst I would certainly support it or Help for Heroes I do tend to agree that the YD charity ought to have some sort of link to diving, so RNLI, coastguard, MCS or Shark Trust are all good choices.

Lets not forget that this is just about the official YD charity for the coming year. I have no doubt whatsoever that if someone organised something specifically to raise money for Help for Heroes then YD would show it's typically generous side and support it.

This year I'd like the YD Charity to be:

Scuttler's Rehabilitation Fund.....I'm just waiting for the registered charity number to come through and will advise soonest but don't let that deter you from donating immediately....oh and don't forget to Gift Aid it too

Failing that:

Marine conservation or RNLI again.

Yes, of course I owe thanks for that, and I do, or did have a few members of my family in the Forces. The point I was trying to make was people now become solders by choice, no one is forced into it; and hence <hopefully> knew the risks when signing up.

On the other side of the coin, endangered marine creatures are in that state, most probably not down to their choice, but down to humanity's hand?

But, whichever way the vote goes, I am willing to support either or both.

Cheers,
Lou

ps - can I have my back please?
