Exclamation YD Charity 2008-09

April is our last month in having the RNLI as our charity of choice - and what a year it has been. A superb effort from everyone involved and my deepest thanks to Adrian, Yazzy et al for all their superb efforts in driving this as well as those who helped raise such a phenomenal amount of money.

Similar to last year, I'm opening this up now for suggestions for the follow on charity. I'll let this thread run for a couple of weeks to allow people to suggest a charity and their reasons for putting them forward. After that we'll open it up to a group vote.

This can include RNLI again if thats the charity most people wish to support so please start making your cases now and we'll move to a vote in April.

Also need some volunteers to drive this for the following 12 months so names will be gratefully received.

Thanks again for all your support this year - you're all a credit to the YD community.

Thanks Jay, as well as thank you to all who contributed to the RNLI in the past year.

Well I think I have said it before, but Help for Heroes gets my proposal. I don't agree with all that our forces are being told to do, but that does not mean I think those who are injured should be ignored either.

Dunno what to say. With several close family members in the forces, one in Oman and one about to go to Afghanistan it gets my vote!

Is this charity able to provide any sorta PR stuff that may prevent the mindless abuse our defence forces are now on the receiving end of? It's like the Vietnam soldiers return

I didn't agree with the war but I applaud those that are prepared to be at the front line on our behalf. They don't chose where they go or what they do, that's the politicians, and I find it extremely upsetting that they are now being abused for that

Monty Halls plugged this at his talk at LIDS on Sunday. Perhaps he'd be up for some sort of fund raising exercise if this were the winner. Could be good fun.

He assured me he was popping in to check what happened to the photo Vonny put up so hopefully he'll read this

I'd have no objection to RNLI again.

But as an alternative, how about the Marine Conservation Society? Something we surely all have a vested interest in. So is something like DDRC or any/all other chambers.

Then theres the likes of WDCS, Shark Trust and Sea Turtle Trust for the fish huggers amongst us
