RNLI - YD Charity for 2008-09

The polls are now closed, the votes have been counted and verified, and once again, YD'ers have chosen RNLI to be the Charity Of The Year.

A week or so ago, Mal asked for volunteers to co-ordinate the fundraising efforts, and this years volunteers are:

Paramedic Paul
Big_si
Arfie
and me.

We are currently coming up with a few ideas as to how we can encourage the fundraising. There will be some new ones, some old ones, and some stolen (actually, borrowed is probably a better term!) ones but the aim will be to make loads for RNLI over the coming months.

However, we can't do it without your help, and I am sure that some of you will have some brilliant ideas as well.... the more the merrier.

To start off with, some months ago, I said I would do a tandem sky dive. I would like others to join me, and when I have done a bit of research into it, there will be a new thread set up.

So.... over to you...

All ideas greatfully received!

(p.s. can a mod please make this a sticky?)

Bump

As Scubee said, we are discussing various possibilities and last years fundraisers can expect to get their ears bent and brains picked over the next 12 months to find out any good ideas and pitfalls of what they did.

But in the meantime 2 weeks ago Scubee asked if there were any suggestions and nobody has offered any

YD isn't renowned for it's lack of opinion so if anyone has any ideas (bright or otherwise) to raise money for the RNLI, PLEASE let us know.

If you can do anything that can help raise funds such as the Glider Night done today, please again let us know.

Cheers
Arfie

The YD drinkypoos night on 5th June - Scubee could tin-rattle and we could gamble on some drinking games.

How about a proper Dinner Dance. All posh, just like me!??! Have it in a hotel so people can stay. Yeah, it'll cost something like £50-£60 a head, plus hotel fees but you can have auctions or raffle tickets. The local communities may cough up prizes to sell tickets for, as long as they get a mention. There's enough YDers around so you should be able to get enough and if you give plenty of notice then people can save up. It'd be great to see YDers in fancy clothes rather than dry suits for a change?

I'd say hold it in Reading, cos there's lots of lovely hotels (and it'd save ME the cost of the hotel!!! ) but the logical place would be the Midlands somewhere because it's in the middle!

Just a thought????

... like how long Juz, the Dude and Digger could go without using the 'F' word?

Oooh,,, no.... better idea... fine them for how often they are vulgar .... we'd make thousands

Only joking - if we can come up with some meaningful ways of raising cash in 2 weeks, then brilliant, otherwise, I suggest we all have one less beer in the pub and put the money in the jar. (that will put me down to 2, on account of my very long drive the following day )

That is a really good idea. We can look at that one too. It would need firm commitments up front, though, I think.

You'd need a min 50% deposit, I'd say. And then the balance 2 months before the event. If you do it before Christmas you'll have trouble finding places because they're normally booked the year before for big events. Alternatively, it could be at the end of January, say the last weekend which would be a payday after having spent out over Christmas, cheaper because not Christmas rates and it could the Grande Finale event of the 2008 charity drive?

I used to belong to a youth club that did charity stuff. I organised lots of things like this so if you need any help or thoughts on this event, if you went ahead with it, I'd happily help out. If you want to view venues I'll come with you if you like.

Oh yeah, Big Si said finale! Doh! Beat me to it, Si! Sorry!
