2008-2009 RNLI Payments Info
We have had some queries lately about making donations to the RNLI, and how best we can maximise the revenue, and how we can attribute the work of event and scheme organisers in calculating how much has been raised by YD'ers for various things.
Donations to any charity are tax deductable, and by completing Gift Aid, the RNLI get 28% extra on each donation. The RNLI have told me, though, that the reclamation isn't cost effective for donations under a tenner.
At the moment, payments to the RNLI can be made through me, by sending me a cheque payable to the RNLI and downloading a Gift Aid form (B1) from the Inland Revenue website. Anyone wishing to make a payment this way can PM me , and i will forward my address details.
However, it seems that people find this a cumbersome way of making donations, so, follwoing a discussion amongst the Tin Rattlers (myself, Paramedic Paul, Big_Si and Arfie) a Just Giving web page has been set up. We are aware that Just Giving take a commission, but we believe that the amount we increase donations by will more than offset the charges made.
It can be found here
Justgiving - Yorkshire Divers RNLI Page
Any donations are welcome through the site provided that either the event or scheme organiser or one of the Tin Rattlers has suggested it as an appropriate way to donate. there are some things coming along which will need to have a different method of payment, such as the salendars, the buckles and the clothing. If you make a donation on the Just Giving page contrary to instructions, you will be expected to also make the payment in the correct way. This is because some items will have required an outlay by the organiser. Not all the £15 you pay for the Polo Shirt will go to the RNLI, but a percentage will. We need to make sure that those taking the risk are protected as much as we can.
If you have any queries regarding donating to the RNLI, please contact any one of the Tin Rattlers.

Congratulations go to Spacehopper for being the first person to donate on the Just Giving site.
Thank, Gareth
