I thought about this a couple of years ago, but went off the idea after doing a swim from Sandwick bay to Howtown pier at Ullswater. On Google Earth it measured 1.3miles not sure how much it added on been at 5m for most of it.
The weed was a bloody nightmare and there was bit of a current with it been a little windy up top.

Went in with a 15 Ltr and 7 Ltr side, we spent 10 mins at 25m and the rest of the time above 10. I surfaced 2hrs later with 10 bar in both tanks. We were met by a rescue boat and the police who my other half had called out because we were 1 and a half hrs over due
The water temp was 16C and I was wet through with sweat.

It would have been a fun dive, had I not been thinking of the ear ache I was going to get at the end of it

I'm sure you guys will pull this off, and Wast at least will be a little cooler than Ullswater.
One thing you could do with though, underwater MP3 player. 3 hrs of looking at mud might get a little boring!

I'll pop up if I'm free that weekend.

Meanwhile, this weekend I was thinking of a possible dive across the bay, Meadfoot to Brixham, coincidentally three miles!

My club has done this in the past as a relay but never as an individual going all the way.

Was going to chew it over when I get back from my hols... possible joint venture with a southern counterpart for those of us who live miles away from Cumbria?

One in fresh, the other in salt water?

    Will need tide considerations etc.

Don't mean to hijack but as I say, this was in my mind anyway.

Well in Rolfe, support is important. De-hydration, cold and cramp will be big factors ohh and the odd OC diver needing a stage

As long as I can clear my calendar and get the appropriate amount of gas etc I'm up for it.

I assume that we're going East to West with the flow.

Hi Simon, I'm up for it as well if it can postponed by 1 week? The short one is up for it as well if she can swap her shift?
Can I suggest British Divers Marine Life Rescue as one of the chosen charities?

I won't be able to make it sadly, but I thought I'd put my 2p in anyway - if you put a tent and sleeping bag and a set of clothes in a dry bag, you could tow it along the surface behind you and invent a whole new sport of dive-touring!

Or do a sneaky underwater midnight stealth approach on the pub.

Wonder how much flights home for the weekend are......?

It's shaping up now, We have a mixture of Rebreather divers and Open circuit which is good. The open circuit folks can set off with a sling and when they've finished it pass it off to a support diver. If they need another one near the end they can request it. I don't think it's possible on twin 232 bar 12s unless you have a really low SAC but that's why we need support dives as well as tending to the welfare of the participants.

Everyone can get involved with sponsorship, lets say the challenge is to have x number of divers to go the whole length without breaking the surface.

I know that there are many deserving Charities but the chosen YD charity for the year is RNLI. You all had a vote on this earlier in the year and as this is going to be a YD gig then the money goes in the YD tin.
