Dive the length of Wastwater for charity.

    The weekend of 26/27 September

Something I've fancied doing for a good few years is to fin the length of Wastwater under water. So I spoke to Scubee about it and I've done some research and a bit of planning but still in the early stages yet.

To be honest I could do with a lift in the planning and organising dept as I'm backwards and forwards to Egypt. However late September seems to be a reasonable time to undertake this.

It's 3 miles as the crow flies but we aren't flying are we? we will be diving a contour therefore it will be more like 4 miles.

I think with a steady pace this should take less than 3 hours but I'll reckon on 3 hours for a plan. I've been thinking of doing this in the next couple of weeks to see but it seems that that is defeating the object.

Within the plan we should have safety divers who can pop out and tend to the needs of the divers who are doing the length. It can be accomplished on open circuit dependent on the sac rate and what you can carry.

Money raised through sponsorship and hopefully we can rouse support from manufactures or suppliers.

There is the possibility making a weekend of it. Compressors aren't allowed nearby but I should be able to set a gas station up a mile or so away.

What I'd like to do is measure interest with participants and supporting members.

    excellent idea, Simon.

i've put myself down to dive it, but TBH, 3 hours on OC may not be possible, unless I have a couple of stages, and it isn't too deep. I'mm assuming that the depth will be relatively shallow, otherwise there will be big deco obligations.

If i can't dive it, i'll certainly help out with organising and stuff, and rattle the RNLI tins loudly!!

I wasn't thinking about doing the bottom (maybe later), 6 to 10 metres should do it nicely there is a nice 6 metre contour that will allow a good few divers following and if you do it on a rich mix you'll have less Nitrogen in your gas than you're breathing right now.
