Nope. Very dodgy wholesalers in Hucknall who sell mostly tat (you can spot most of it down any market round here) but occasionally come up with gems. Like the Dysons. Or 2-way radios for £15 per pair. And tools are really really cheap. I mean you know those alley keys you get on a keyring? 80p per set. And 8" adjustables for £1.40. Shite quality but hey they are going to rust like buggery in your dive kit anyway. What else? Er, naff christmas decorations by the bucket load. Kids toys really cheap (and decent brands too).

But you need to be traaaaade to go there.

Council Tax, Income Tax, Tax on Interest, Insurance Premium Tax, Airport Tax, National Insurance, VAT, Road Tax, Stamp Duty, Inheritance Tax, Duty on alcohol and tobacco etc.. etc.. etc..

Essentially, not only do the government charge you to earn your money, but then they charge you to spend it. And when you die they tax you for dying.

In real terms the inflation in this country doesn't include the cost of tax rises. If it did, we'd have an inflation problem because it's this which is eating our cash.

In real terms the cost of consumer items have gone down. I'm spending less at the supermarket than I did 2 years ago and getting more for my money.

Electrical items cost nowt compared to two or four years ago.

42" Plasma TV in 2000 = £16,000 (Philips, as seen in Selfridges, London, before I went down to the Millennium Dome)
42" Plasma TV in 2004 = £999 (Tiny)
Wasn't the whole attitude of the Tory party decrease direct taxation and increase to the hilt indirect taxation. Because people think they had the choice of whether to buy or not, they were duped because the indirect taxation brings in a lot more than PAYE!! Gov. would never have done it if it was going to bring in less. So you have the situation whereby everyone pays the same indorect tax if you buy the same commodity regardless of income - nice for us high earners but then I don't live there any more so get back to high direct taxes and let us visitors benefit from an overly generous labour government encouraging people to spend by lowering VAT!!
