| I guess it is worth keeping in mind that 1 in 3 job centre staff are worried about their jobs at the moment. Well they are all worried. Unfotunately the benefits system is now deisgned for the long term lazy. |

| I found new respect for my dad a few years ago!! He got cancer and couldn't work - having worked since he was 16 at least and never claiming benefit. Went just to see what he mihgt be entitled to and was told nothing. Apparently he ranted in a loud voice about illegal immigrants getting more benefit than a hard working citizen and called the lady at the counter some rather unsavoury names!!!! Big up my dad!!!! Good luck to all - seems like theres quite a few this is happening to at the mo. K XX |

| When i had my arm broken a couple of years ago i was working as a waitress and needed every penny i could get. Obviously i couldnt work, so i was off for 6 weeks in plaster. Because my other half earned a meagre wage, and i hadnt earned an average of over £75 in the previous 6 weeks (it was something like £68) i wasnt entitled to any sick pay or benefits of any kind. Plus when i got out of plaster i found they had replaced me when i was away and there was no longer a job for me.

| Frontline JC & Benefits staff work for a pittance in unsafe conditions. Many of them actually have to claim the benefits they administer. None of them actually make the rules on benefits they are obliged to enforce. Many of them are being made redundant. New, unscreened, offices have resulted in staff being seriously assaulted and even stabbed. It's only a matter of time before someone is murdered. I'm really sorry if people lose their jobs. I'm even sorrier if anyone is treated rudely or inconsiderately by JC staff. This is not acceptable and if that is the case you should insist on speaking to a senior officer, ideally their reporting officer (this may or may not make a difference, if they've been told they're being made redundant they may no longer care). But ranting at them, calling them names, rubbing their noses in your money is not called for. They're people just like you and how many of you would care to spend your days telling some drunk or stoned neanderthals that 'no, you can't have any more money'? I hate to agree with the Scottish Executive but; 'Worker Abuse? There's no excuse'.

Hold on! I was very polite and did not lose my temper or get aggressive. BUT, if they don't like their job they should change it, there is NEVER an excuse to be rude to 'customers'. They are paid by the govt, from my taxes, to treat people using basic human relationship principles and I expect to be treated with respect, until such point that I no longer deserve it (ie become abusive etc). This is not acceptable and if that is the case you should insist on speaking to a senior officer, ideally their reporting officer (this may or may not make a difference, if they've been told they're being made redundant they may no longer care). Did you read the above bit? But ranting at them, calling them names, rubbing their noses in your money is not called for. They're people just like you and how many of you would care to spend your days telling some drunk or stoned neanderthals that 'no, you can't have any more money'? Did you read some of the other posters about the abuse they gave JC staff? I hate to agree with the Scottish Executive but; 'Worker Abuse? There's no excuse'.[/quote] I'm sorry Juz, this post wasn't directed at you, you didn't say you were abusive and I hoped I didn't imply that you were but others freely admitted it and that's what I objected to and wanted to put the alternative PoV. I hope not to offend anyone but I like to treat everyone as I'd like to be treated myself whilst still expressing myself. If anyone else dislikes my view, I'll shut up right now and apologise for upsetting them but not for holding the views I do. You reasonably expect help and advice in a polite and respectful manner and the fact that you didn't get any is, in my view, not acceptable. If I were you I'd contact them again and, if you get the same snash, insist on taking it higher.
