This is true of all politicians. If they are not in power they cannot do/change anything. Therefore it is better to "bend" the truth but stay in power than to be thought "honourable" and in opposition.

This thinking is very much the ideology behind "new" labour IMO.

(And yes Allan most of our MPs here are bent too - more than a third)

I voted "abstain" and an uncomfortable that this is the case.

As a post-script will Howard have to deport his Dad under the new asylum laws he is proposing?

I don't vote, but I do go to a polling station and write my opinion of the options on a ballot paper. People may think thats a waste of time, but I feel getting off my arse to object, when most people can't even be arsed to vote will show my depth of frustration!

Lets be honest, there aint that much between them all. I think if a recognisable protest vote option was on the cards it may force some of the self-serving w@nkers to get up of their arses and do some good.....

Sorry for the rant

Unfortunately a protest vote doesn't do much good unless it has some kind of possitive and measurable effect on the outcome. Unfortunately abstaining is pointless as your lack of voting just gets put down to "voter apathy". If you don't like a particular party then the only way you'll get rid of them it to vote to their opposition. The big question is do you trust the other party enough to be better than the others one and thats tricky; promises over track record.

Interesting observation as the Tories say they will restore the earnings link to pensions. Amnesia? (Ohh and BTW if "prison works" why didn't they bang up Christine as well as Neil?)

It doesn't seem to matter who I vote for, the Government always gets in.
